We have used biomass energy or bio energy – the energy from organic matter – for thousands of years, ever since people started burning wood to cook food or to keep warm. Biomass is abundant in Africa, South America, South-East Asia and Russia.

And today, wood is still our largest biomass energy resource. But many other sources of biomass can now be used, including plants, residues from agriculture-, food-industry or forestry, and the organic component of municipal and industrial wastes.

The use of biomass energy has the potential to greatly reduce our greenhouse gas emissions. Biomass emits carbon dioxide when converted to energy, but less then fossil fuel powered plants. But every time a new plant grows, carbon dioxide is actually removed from the atmosphere. The net emission of carbon dioxide is therefor zero as long as plants continue to be replenished for biomass energy purposes. When grown energy crops, such as fast-growing trees and grasses, are called biomass feedstock’s. The use of biomass feedstock’s can also help increase profits for the agricultural industry.

Biomass installations

The investment costs of the installations are quickly earned back, because input source for energy is waste. Our biomass installations can use all kind of organic material. This can be plant-, forest-, sewer-, manure-residues. These are for conversion, prepared with a plug flow digestor. Depending the possible supply, frequently or seasonal, liquid or pasty substrates are stored in cellars, silo’s or tanks, under ambient temperature or heated (fats) conditions. Solid substrates are stored as silage or sheltered. For the storage of solids a flat concrete floor is applied, this sort of floor is also easy to clean.
